Dr. Rosalyn M. Aranas graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and a minor in psychology from Loyola University Chicago.

Dr. Aranas graduated from medical school at the Rush Medical College in Chicago in 2005. She was awarded by the American Academy of Neurology, the 2005 Medical Student Prize for Excellence in Clinical Neurology. This prestigious recognition and award is given to one graduating medical student in each US medical school who has demonstrated outstanding clinical knowledge and acumen in the field of neurology and nominated by faculty and residents.

During her Neurology Residency at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Dr. Aranas has received extensive training from world-renowned and prominent experts in various subspecialties of neurology—Rush Comprehensive Epilepsy Center (Dr. Michael Smith, Dr. Andres Kanner, Dr. Donna Bergen et al), Rush Multiple Sclerosis Center (Dr. Dusan Stefoski, Dr. Roumen Balabanov), Rush Movement Disorders Center (Dr. Christopher Goetz, Dr. Cynthia Comella, Dr. Kathleen Shannon et al), Rush Alzheimers Disease Center (Dr. David Bennett, Dr. Zoe Arvanitakis), Neuromuscular Dystrophy Clinic, Headache Clinic, and General Neurology.

During her residency, she also conducted clinical research and published an original article in the Journal of Neurocritical Care (June 2009, Volume 10, Issue 3, pp 306-312) entitled Posterior Reversible Encephalopathy Syndrome Associated with Hemorrhage. Dr. Aranas presented her clinical reasearch to the World Stroke Congress in Vienna, Austria in 2008.

After completing her neurology residency, she pursued and completed a formal fellowship training in Sleep Disorders Medicine at Rush University Sleep Disorders Center. She had the benefit of having trained by a group of talented multi-disciplinary team of sleep medicine specialists which included neurologists, pulmonologists, psychologists, and insomnia specialists, who provided her a well-rounded clinical knowledge and background in the field of sleep medicine.  She recognizes that not all sleep apnea are obstructive sleep apnea. Central sleep apnea most commonly associated with cardiovascular diseases results in poor quality of life, worsens cardiovascular disease; unfortunately are underdiagnosed, yet highly treatable. She is adept in treating various sleep disorders such as Restless Legs Syndrome, Circadian Rhythm Disorders, REM behavioral disorders, and so on.

She then afterwards pursued and completed a formal fellowship training in Clinical Neurophysiology at Rush University Medical Center, Chicago. She gained extensive training and experience in the clinical diagnosis and treatment of neuromuscular diseases and epilepsy. Equally important, she gained essential skills in performing and interpreting Electromyography and Nerve Conduction Studies (EMG/NCV) which is used to diagnose various neuromuscular conditions, interpreting prolonged inpatient and ambulatory Electroencephalography (EEG) to diagnose seizure disorders and epilepsy. She is also a graduate of Kiffin-Penry Neurology Resident Comprehensive Epilepsy Program and Advanced Epilepsy Mini-Fellowship Program. She is certified in programming Vagal Nerve Stimulator for intractable epilepsy.

Dr. Aranas is a strong advocate for her patients and the field of neurology. She is passionate about providing excellent, unparalleled, and compassionate care for all her patients. She was selected by the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) as one of the 2014 Palatucci Leadership Advocate, a highly selective process that identifies neurologists who exhibit strong leadership potential, passion for neurology and patients, and strong desire to change our health care system to further improve the quality of care for all patients. She is actively involved in public health policy and legislation; and represents American Academy of Neurology(AAN) in Capitol Hill, Washington D.C. to advocate for neurology, US health care, and her patients.

She currently practices full time adult general neurology and sleep medicine at The Neurology and Sleep Clinics of Chicago S.C. in Schaumburg, IL. She is Board Certified in Neurology, Board Certified in Clinical Neurophysiology, and Board Certified in Clinical Sleep Medicine by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).
